Architecturally significant, The Butterfly House is a re-creation of a classic case-modern home with wings, ample glass, and sloped ceilings. Completed in summer of 2011, this new one-story home sits on one acre of secluded property with unobstructed views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.    The Butterfly House is being featured in the 2012 Design Santa Fe tour. The initial design concept of this residence was to provide a vibrant entry and open living space in the heart of a minimal arrangement of supporting spaces/forms rooted in the earth. The implied butterfly roof is the intersection of these spaces creating a spirited appearance from a distance and up close. The house was designed to reflect an environment of health and repose within the surrounding high desert of north Santa Fe. Both the Santa Fe Plaza and the Santa Fe opera are just minutes away. The Santa Fe Ski Basin and the city of Taos are each less than 45 minutes away.    The home is 2100 square feet with two bedrooms and two full bathrooms. Each bedroom has a queen-sized bed. The media room and master bedroom both have flat-screen televisions. A sofa and flat-screen television are located in the media room for guests to use. The kitchen shines with black granite countertops, an island, and top-of-the-line appliances. A patio, which features a table and chairs and a gas grill, is accessible from both the living area and the master suite, and looks northeast, directly at the mountains. Other features include a wood-burning fireplace, an over-sized shower in the master bath, and a split bedroom design. The home is furnished with a mid-century and modern style. It incorporates environmentally conscious systems for the management of water, waste, heating and cooling in order to help preserve the beauty of the New Mexican landscape. The house is oriented and was built to assure optimal natural heating and cooling and has state of the art high powered ceiling fans to provide comfort year round.
