Description

Consist of circa 1930 maisonettes. The exterior of the building is constructed and finished in the mediterranean style common to this area.

This style of building was a popular alternative to the traditional corrugated iron construction seen in Broken Hill due to the extreme cost of transporting bricks from South Australia.

It offered the insulation advantages of brick construction without the extreme freight costs prevalent in those days, or cracking problems due to the mine firings. It consists of a concrete render which is then top coated with "flick plaster", using white cement and Menindee white sand, this gives a durable and more attractive finish than plain concrete.
