Our beautiful one-acre lush tropical paradise is located south of Hilo and near Kea'au and Pahoa Villages. Our one bed apt, is both unique and artsy, with Polynesian decor, looking out at coconut palms, fruit trees... banana, mango, avocado, pineapple and tropical flowers. A piece of paradise to call home while you are on the Big Island. Go to sleep with frogs chirping and stars so bright you could almost touch them. Wake up to birds singing and complimentary Hawaiian coffee . We had a fantastic visit to Hilo, nice location central to local sites. The homeowners were very sweet and personable. Their gardens were lush and beautiful, I felt like Alice in wonderland tiptoeing through the landscape. At night their lights twinkle and look like something out of avatar. Cons: you cannot drink the water, towels had a funny odor and the bed is less than comfortable. The bugs outside were a little bit much, so we could not enjoy the patio. All in all a fun experience.

We loved our 4 day stay here with Kepi and Jim. They were very friendly and inviting. The room was spacious and all decked out in beautiful Hawaiian paintings. Would definitely recommend this place!!

Kepi and Jim were great hosts and made everything so easy and welcoming! My flight in to Hilo got in late in the evening, but the place was very easy to find and not far off the main road. They have a chalkboard on a surf board that welcomed me by name and directed me where to park and where my little apartment was located. What a nice way to start my stay! I first walked in and it was cool inside, with ceiling fans and cool breezes coming through the many screened windows. It smelled wonderful inside, as did the towels and linens (I later found out it was the Malaluca detergent Kepi uses!). The unit was very clean and had a nice walk in shower, spacious bedroom, cool concrete floors and Kepi's beautiful artwork on the walls. The back lanai was my favorite place to spend time overlooking a garden area with beautiful plants and flowers. Really relaxing, particularly in the mornings while drinking coffee or in the evenings after dinner. Jim has put up lovely lights throughout the garden, making it quite a magical place to sit in the evening, listening to the coqui frogs. They have several units and had very nice, friendly people staying there. You can have interesting conversations with the hosts and guests, but all were considerate if you just want some quiet time alone as well. As I was using their place as a base camp for preparations for a move there at the end of the summer, Kepi and Jim were exceptionally helpful making suggestions for locals I could contact for services, finding community and church groups, giving advice on good beaches and outdoor activities and where to shop. They were so gracious and giving of their time and information. I felt like I had known them for years by the time I left a week later, and felt like I had made new friends! I was so lucky to find this little gem on VRBO and would highly recommend a stay at the Turtle House!

Beautiful property with convenient access to Hilo side adventures. Priced right for those looking for a good value! Comfy bed, cable/ smart tv and kitchen with all the basics ( no oven). Other reviewers quite right in the assessment of constant noise from frogs all night long but I don’t think you would escape this unless you were closed in with sealed windows, not possible here. Overall would recommend!
